The day after Easter, 2016, our 10-year-old daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). This disease has rocked our world. Overnight Gracie’s life was forever changed, through no fault of her own. This auto-immune disease is unpredictable, relentless and gut-wrenching. Gracie is our hero.
Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is a chronic disease in which insulin producing beta cells in the pancreas are mistakenly destroyed by the body's immune system. Insulin is a necessary hormone needed to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells in our body and produce energy. People with T1D are dependent on injected or pumped insulin to survive (JDRF*)
Watching our daughter struggle with the literal highs and lows of managing Type 1 Diabetes is a helpless feeling. CURE is our effort to regain some control over this out-of-control disease. And, ultimately, find a CURE.
